WHO WE ARE

We are a community-driven health NGO working to restore dignity through access to care.

Who We Are

Partnering with communities and stakeholders, we deliver life-saving health services that alleviate suffering and restore dignity in humanitarian crises.

Afya Project is a grassroots, non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to bridging critical healthcare and livelihood gaps among underserved populations, particularly in the ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Lands) counties in Kenya.

Founded in 2025, Afya Project was established in response to the growing health and socio-economic challenges affecting marginalized communities that often remain beyond the reach of essential services.

These regions face a heavy burden of malnutrition and reproductive health challenges, compounded by poverty, weak infrastructure, limited access to healthcare, and lack of proper information. The absence of adequate diagnostic tools, together with geographic isolation, further undermines effective disease prevention, treatment, and control.

In rural areas, the situation is worsened by a severe shortage of healthcare professionals, with doctor-to-patient ratios as low as approximately 1:20,000, while nurse-to-patient ratios are as low as approximately 1:3000, intensifying the crisis.

Our Approach

We deliver health solutions through community engagement, local leadership, and rapid response.

At Afya Project, we work hand-in-hand with communities to design health solutions that reflect their realities. Our focus is on prevention, education, and early intervention to reduce disease and strengthen resilience at the grassroots level.

In times of crisis, we respond quickly with mobile clinics, health kits, and hygiene support. We also train local health workers to build lasting systems, guided by data, accountability, and strong partnerships across sectors.

We prioritize inclusive, people-centered care that reaches those often left behind—women, youth, refugees, and marginalized communities. Every intervention we make is built on trust, cultural sensitivity, and a deep commitment to health equity.
